Emotions Over Time

As an excercise and reflection on emotions, I recordeded emotions felt throughout the day, a la Feltron Reports. The How We Feel App app made collecting structured data easy, with daily logging akin to bullet journaling and the ability to export data.

Using data from 200 days I designed an animated readout with Touch Designer.

The most interesting questions it raised were around how we recall our recent past from an emotional vantage point, given how widely feelings can range over the course of a day or week. What makes up a good day?

I went through several stages of balancing clarity with visual interest.

There were also some serendipitous glitches along the way.

Eventually, I landed on something emphasising more clarity with effects influenced by density and colors of emotions. It lead to a format similar to Sanger Sequencing for high information density.
