Variable Fonts

Nick Sherman’s sister post, Variable Fonts for Responsive Design, framed the broader format conversation.

A follow-on piece explored how designers should actually control n-dimensional variable fonts. Poor interfaces had already limited earlier Multiple Master and GX efforts; variable fonts needed tools that made axes visible and usable.

I built the web’s first Variable Font proof of concept using live fonts.
